  • THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES

    Hans Christian Andersen, Ken Stiles

eBook (AUK Kids, Nov. 18, 2011)
Fairy Rebus StoriesVolume 1THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHESbyHans Christian AndersenRebus byKen StilesFairy Rebus StoriesThese rebus puzzle stories use little pictures for the sound of some of the words in the story instead of the meaning. For example, when the words be or bee are in the story, a little picture of a bee is used instead. Two sounds in the same word are joined by a plus sign "+". As in, for example, "B+4" for before. With a minus sign "-" take out the sound of the picture or letter. Capital letters sound like they are pronounced in the alphabet. (for example, "Y" for why, "T" for tea or tee, or "C" for see or sea, etc.) Likewise, numbers (for example, "2" for to, too, or two). Two or three pictures in a row stand for the plural of that word. Lowercase letters use a sound other than the way they are pronounced in the alphabet.Consult the glossary if you need help; the answer if completely stuck.Enjoy,Ken Stiles
  • Bel and the Dragon

    Nakesha Lowe

eBook (AUK Kids, Nov. 29, 2013)
This is the story of King Cyrus and the people of Babylon, and how they worshipped idol gods instead of the one true God. This led to the destruction of Bel and the Dragon by the hands of the prophet Daniel. Serving other gods is vain and worthless. There is only one God, who is worthy of worship, and that is the God of your Holy Bible and none else. Serving any other gods is to your own hurt. (Jeremiah 25:6-7)
  • God's High Holy Days vs. Man's Pagan Holidays

    Nakesha Lowe

language (AUK Kids, Dec. 5, 2013)
God had ordained what days are ordinary, and which days He had made High Days and hallowed them as feast days for the Israelites. Many generations have strayed away from the way they are suppose to serve God; they have taken heed to the way of the stranger, celebrating man's pagan holidays. We have to serve God the way we are ordained to and not the way we want to. There are man's philosophies and opinions, and then there is the truth. (Ecclesiasticus 33: 7-9)

  • The Nightingale

    Hans Christian Andersen, Werner Wejp-Olsen

eBook (AUK Kids, Nov. 6, 2012)
The world’s most famous Dane, Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) and his wonderful fairy tales are loved all over the globe. Besides being a master of the written word, he was also a very talented illustrator. No doubt, had he lived today he would probably have tried his hand on cartooning as well and maybe created some of his fairy tales as comic strips. All in all he wrote 157 fairy tales. Here is the comic strip version of one of his most beloved fairy tales - The Nightingale, re-created by the Danish cartoonist Werner Wejp-Olsen. The Nightingale tells the story off a little bird whose wonderful singing saves the life of the all-powerful Chinese emperor. It is also a tribute to Jenny Lind, a famous Swedish opera singer with whom Andersen was deeply in love.

This expensive private school with poor facilities and extremely bad teaching is run by the formidable Dr. Scrote, who is only interested in discipline. Colin in his role as a 12 year old boy becomes the friend of Harry Barking. In a series of hilarious scrapes Colin and M rescue Harry more than once. Heather appears at the evening meal at Barkingham Hall, and causes trouble with her tennis racket. Harry angrily explains to his family that they have neglected and mistreated him for years. He disowns them and his inheritance. Finally Colin and M trap Harry’s two loathsome older step-brothers into proposing marriage to the twin sisters Drusilla and Hortensia. M also takes an interest in stamp collecting. The Purple Heather PerpsA third encounter with Harry Barking leads Colin back to the 1920s.
