  • Home Sweet Hailstorm

    Charlie McCarthy

    Paperback (iUniverse, May 26, 2005)
5th Grade students wrote this novel over the course of six months. Students were given an assignment to write a 25,000-word novel about a boy and a girl who need to go from their classroom to the office. Each room along the way should be a chapter that begins as the characters enter the room and ends about 1,500 words later as the characters leave the room. Our ultimate goal was to create a plot that flows from one room to the next. My goal, as the teacher, was to develop an assignment where writing concepts would be encountered as they came up in the context of a meaningful project.I am extremely proud of my students. Their dedication to this project has more than advanced them to the next grade level; it has made them novelists before the age of twelve. Please excuse their errors and enjoy their efforts because they enjoyed writing this novel more than filling out worksheets, studying weekly spelling words, and practicing for standardized tests.Did you ever have a crazy day at school? Read this book and your crazy day will seem like a picnic in the park.

  • Home, Sweet Home

Lizbeth Bullock Humphrey, John Howard Payne

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
