Not only has she brought delight to readers of all ages over the last two centuries, but her social observation and witty commentary have become of great interest to academics and historians.Austen was educated by her father and her elder brothers as she grew up within a close family on the periphery of the English landed gentry. Her family was her greatest support and they encouraged her writing, which enabled to experiment with voice and form, helping her to develop the literary style. During her lifetime Austen published four novels, Sense and Sensibility in 1811, Pride and Prejudice in 1813, Mansfield Park in 1814 and Emma in 1816.Jane Austen died on 18 July 1817 at the age of forty-one. She had completed two other manuscripts, which were published posthumously, in 1818, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
