Through the diary of the White Rabbit's extremely busy wife, readers finally get to see what happens in the background during Alice's adventures. Mrs. White Rabbit loves her husband and their many children, but with an invisible housecat from Cheshire and a young female visitor who frequently changes size, living in Wonderland comes with a number of challenges. When Alice followed the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, a fantastic experience awaited her. For W.R., however, it is the only home he has ever known. Now it is in danger. Strange things are happening in Wonderland. W.R.’s favorite breakfast food, the Sprinter family runner beans, have failed to reappear on the vine after his last meal, as have the Walrus and the Carpenter’s sumptuous oysters. The Queen’s roses are dying, the Cheshire Cat is vanishing, and the Duke of Aquatain has developed a newfound ambition that seems destined to place W.R. in the center of a royal coup that could cost him his head!W.R. blames himself for this. If he hadn’t been so eager to try out the Device, Mary Ann would not have been born so unstable. Perhaps it is her very instability that is at the center of all the strange changes in the Kingdom. The appearance of a giant vortex on the edges of the Kingdom, sucking up everything in its path, convinces W.R. that Mary Ann has to be returned to the Device immediately. This proves to be far more trouble than expected. The feebleminded girl became so frightened at his last botched attempt to stabilize her that she grew into a destructive giant, wrecked his lab and ran away. Now he has to find her as quickly as possible, but his search is hampered by the crazed machinations of the Duke of Aquatain and the idle whims of the Queen of Hearts. Upsetting either one could have dire consequences for W.R.With time running out and the Duke upping the ante at every turn, the White Rabbit must pull out all the stops if he is to save Wonderland.
