  • The Coming of the White Men: Stories of How Our Country Was Discovered

    Mary Hazelton Wade

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, April 22, 2018)
The true American is happy in the thought that his country is a great and glorious one. He can say with his heart as well as his lips, "This is the land of the Free and the home of the Brave." Those who journey far from their native land and find themselves in foreign countries tell us how they are stirred and thrilled when by any chance the stars and stripes of the American flag meet their view. These stars and stripes stand for the struggles for freedom, the brave deeds in the cause of right and justice, the heroism of those who have laid down their lives that their country should still live, and the brother-love that binds together all the men, women, and children who can say, "I am an American!" It is only right that the boys and girls of America, as soon as they are able to understand, should hear the stories of those who took the first steps toward the building of this nation—those who risked life and fortune and who were willing to face unknown dangers for the sake of freedom.

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, June 8, 2015)
About the Book Satire is a genre of literature where vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings in humans and their institutions are held up to ridicule with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into reform. While satire is generally meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is generally constructive social criticism. Also in this Book Poetry is a literary form that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language (e.g. phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre) to enhance the prosaic ostensible meaning, or generate an alternative meaning. Poetry uses numerous devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. Poetry's long history dates back to prehistorical times ehen hunting poetry was created in Africa. And in this Book Drama texts refer to the mode of fiction represented in the performance of a play in a theater, on radio or on television. Drama is viewed as a genre of poetry, with the dramatic mode being contrasted with the epic and the lyrical modes ever since Aristotle's Poetics (335 BC). The term "drama" itself derives from the Greek word meaning "action”. In the English language the word "play" or "game" was a standard term used to describe drama until William Shakespeare's time. The enactment of drama in a theater, performed by actors on a stage before an audience is often combined with music and dance. In opera, the drama is generally sung throughout, whilst in musicals it includes both spoken dialogue and songs. About the Book Books on Jewish history describe the history of the Jews, their religion and culture. Judaism as a religion first appears in Greek records (323 BC – 31 BC), religious literature relates the story of Israelites going back to c. 1500 BC. The first Jewish diaspora was due to the Assyrian conquest and continued on a bigger scale with the Babylonian conquest. Jews lived throughout the Roman Empire. In 638 CE the Arab Islamic Empire under Caliph Omar conquered Jerusalem. During the Middle Ages there was a Golden Age of Jewish culture in Spain that coincided with Muslim rule. In the 18th century Jews began to campaign for emancipation from restrictive laws, and integration into the wider European society, and began a movement for immigration back to Israel and the re-establishment of a Jewish national homeland. The Zionist movement was founded officially in 1897, while Jews in Europe and the United States gained success in the fields of science, culture and the economy, and produced a disproportionate number of Nobel Prize winners. The coming to power of Adolph Hitler in Germany in 1933 was a disaster for European Jewry, resulting in the systematic murder of 6 million Jews in the Holocaust (Shoah in Hebrew). From 1949 the State of Israel has accepted many Jews from around the world. Also in this Book Judaism is the religion of the Jewish people. An ancient, monotheistic, Abrahamic religion, it has the Torah as its fundamental text. Embracing the religion, philosophy, and culture of the Jewish people, Judaism is considered by religious Jews to be the expression of a direct covenant that God has established with the Children of Israel.About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. • Our Little Siamese Cousin

    Mary Hazelton Wade

    eBook (, Oct. 10, 2013)
If you had seen Chin when he was born, you would have thought his skin yellow enough to suit anybody. But his mother wasn't satisfied, for the baby's nurse was told to rub him with a queer sort of paste from top to toe. This paste was made with saffron and oil, and had a pleasant odour. It made Chin's skin yellower and darker than ever.It did not seem to trouble him, however, for he closed his big brown eyes and went[10] to sleep before the nurse had finished her work.
