  • Almost Golden

    John Mariani Robert Mariani

Paperback (Infinity Publishing, Nov. 28, 2012)
ALMOST GOLDEN is the collaborative memoir of two third-generation Italian-American brothers who grew up in the section of the North Bronx known as “Country Club” during the 1940’s and early ‘50’s. It revisits a bucolic Bronx on the shores of Pelham Bay—a Bronx with snowy white Christmases, swashbuckling uncles, 25-cent movie serials, egg creams, loopy aunts, even cowboys. It was an idyllic enclave that few people ever knew about in a post-War America when the future seemed to be pure gold.
  • that dance book

    John Robert Mack

Paperback (Dance Monkey Press, Nov. 24, 2013)
“Dead people. Everywhere.” For the first time in his life, seventeen-year-old Ethan Fox stands at the grave of parents he doesn’t remember, thinking back to the cemetery where he used to make out with his girlfriend. Ex-girlfriend. Beside him is his dad, an uncle who adopted him so long ago, he’s just “Dad.” The best dad a ballroom dancer could have: a gay boxing coach, so he approves of the dance hobby and makes sure Ethan knows how to deal with bullies. Ex-boxing coach. He accidentally killed a man in the boxing ring. Ethan is a snarky world champion dancer at the peak of his game until Dad loses everything and father and son are forced to move to a tiny South Texas town. As Ethan struggles to build a new life for himself, he meets the local dance crew and its leader, Katy. The dancers? Well, bless their hearts, the choreography is what you see in the first ten minutes of a movie about the downtrodden dance team who’ll rise to fame and glory by the end of it. They may be lousy dancers, but they have the one thing Ethan never had: friends. So maybe Dumass, Texas isn’t such a bad place after all. “The characters are great. . . Reminds me of Hope Floats meets Glee (and I say this as a compliment.)” Kevin Maurer, New York Times best-selling author of No Easy Day: The Autobiography of a Navy Seal. “John captures the art of dancing in such a wonderful way in this book. Every page leads to a new turn that keeps you on your toes. What a fantastic read!” Emily Drinkall, 2012 UCWDC Masters and three-time Superstar Line Dance World Champion. “John accurately describes the struggles of partnership dancers. It’s an interesting read for dancers and non-dancers alike. Well done.” Debbie Figueroa, National West Coast Swing, 2-step, Showcase and Hustle Champion. “John takes us on a joyful romp. . . and really captures the flavor of the life of a dancer. Join Ethan and his new friends as he discovers a life he’d dreamed of but never knew existed, you’ll have a bunch of fun along the way.” Sherry Reynolds, UCWDC World Champion, Master Dancer and Judge.
  • Jack and the Beanstalk

    John Cech, Robert Mackenzie

    Hardcover (Sterling, April 1, 2008)
Jack and his marvelous beanstalk made their first appearance in England in 1734—and for nearly three centuries the tale has continued to enchant children. After all, what could be more reassuring to a small child than the idea that even a little boy can outwit a scary giant? John Cech retells this popular story with humor and warmth, adding plenty of entertaining detail and bringing in some less familiar elements, too. (For example, when Jack escapes for the last time, the giant’s wife comes along with him, and becomes his mother’s good friend.) And Robert Mackenzie’s art captures all the magic of the huge beanstalk and the giant’s oversized world up in the clouds.

  • Trouble with Howlers

    Robert Mackey

    eBook
In the dark, damp canopy of the South American rainforest lives a psychiatrist named Antonio Agular Frigiliana Ribaldio Valdicarzana, otherwise known as Dr. Antonio. In addition to being a professional, level-headed psychologist, Dr. Antonio is also a talking Capuchin monkey, who is finally finished with the dampness of the rainforest and departs to find a new, sunnier home. Costa Rica seems a great fit for Antonio, but it’s not without its own animals in need of Antonio’s professional assistance. The doctor’s band of new patients turned traveling friends grows to ludicrous proportions in his search for the perfect new home, which he finds and purchases from an old sloth in exchange for a rare bottle of fingernail polish. Dr. Antonio’s new neighbors, consisting of sloths, motor-propelled bush babies, and a chronic liar of a fruit bat scientist, waste little time in explaining the terrors of the area as of late. A gang of howler monkeys, complete with gang paraphernalia and ear-splitting, badly written rap songs, have been terrorizing the forest and driving the inhabitants away. Antonio and his friends simply won’t stand for such hooliganism, and through laughable contraptions, heinous plans, and attempts to save their captured comrades, the real adventure begins when they have to stop the trouble with howlers and the mastermind behind it all, Imperial Big.
  • The Other Side of the Wall

    Robert Mackey

    language (, June 9, 2018)
Twelve-year-old Joshua isn’t so sure about his move from California to Addy, Washington. Even with the new house his dad built for them and the chance to explore something new, he’s more worried about what will happen once summer ends—the terrifying prospect of having to make new friends in a new town. But when Joshua and his dad meet their unexpected neighbors, he finds he might just have one friend after all. Kaley is bold, silly, and doesn’t seem to find Joshua’s oddities all that odd. Together, they explore their new home and meet an old woman named Vera, whose property includes the cave they’ve discovered. But when Vera tells them stories of children over the years who have gone missing near that cave, their curiosity gets the better of them. What they find in the cave, though, is wilder and more magical than they could have ever imagined. A world where time does not exist. Where animals talk. Where only the pure heart of a child lets you through to the other side of the wall. And this world desperately needs their help.

    Robert St. John

Hardcover (Different Drummer Press, March 15, 2014)
Fred the Red Frog lived in a flowerbed near the backdoor steps of Robert St. John's childhood home. He was there when the boy left the house and always greeted him on his return. Years later Fred lived on in bedtime stories that St. John told his daughter and son. In these stories, Fred- ever the mischievous adventurer- and a boy named Bobby travelled to school, church, a tree house in the woods, a nearby lake, and the record store. But the greatest adventure of all was when Fred made a trip to the grocery store in search of his favorite treat- chocolate-covered flies. This is that tale.
  • Trouble on the High Seas

    Robert Mackey

    language (, June 5, 2018)
After Dr. Antonio’s amazing and ludicrous adventures in Trouble with Howlers, he and his capuchin girlfriend Plum have finally found the time for a romantic getaway for two. Waving goodbye to the plethora of their talking animal and human friends, they board the Caribbean Princess for a relaxing, low-key cruise. That plan, however, lasts all of five minutes. Finkelstein and the whites, the bush baby brigade, Bo, Shai, Veloz, and even the Sisters of the Immaculate Wave—complete with their own black-and-white yacht—have all decided that they, too, are in need of a little R&R. But when Antonio is kidnapped aboard the Caribbean Princess and interrogated about anonymous Top Secret files, he and his friends are all put in danger. Chased by utensil-wielding chefs around the world, abducted—and aided—by aliens, pulled across the frozen tundra by a slice of lemmings, and literally hurled onto the front doorstep of an emaciated Santa Claus, Antonio’s new adventures across the high seas are even more hilarious than the last. If he and his friends can only find the secret files responsible for the happiness of the entire world, they might just be able to relax and make it home safely, after all.
