    This is the 2nd thrilling part of the Barry (Chippy) Harper autobiography by author Illustrator John L D Barnett called, Gunner (Chippy )Harper The Army Days. Chippy Harper had a hard life growing up in Morley Leeds in England during the 1950s early 1960s. After obtaining his City and Guilds certificate in carpentry and joinery he finally decided to leave his mundane life behind him and look for a more exciting life in the British Forces. At the age of 20, he joined the British Army and serving firstly with 17thTraining Regiment Royal Artillery, before being posted to 24th Missile Regiment Royal Artillery stationed in Paderborn Germany B.F.P.O.1. He served with the regiment as the Battery Carpenter and a B11 equipment repairer and became (no 2) on the team of the Honest John Missile Launcher, during which time he also obtained his B3 signals qualifications. While serving with the armed forces in Germany he married his wife Diane, and they have now been happily married for 49 years and have three wonderful grown-up children. He retired from the army in1970 to start his own successful carpentry and joinery business, working in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, finally retiring in 2008
