Victoria suffers the normal troubles of every teenager: homework deadlines, a protective mother who keeps knives under her pillow, a missing father, and if she's not careful, Victoria falls into her paintings. Ok, so, not so normal problems. The paintings that lead to other realities are Gateways, and all is not well in the worlds outside our own. A shift in power is brewing as a search for an ancient weapon, the same weapon Victoria's father swore to protect, forces her to choose between remaining under the protection of her mentor or going on her own to find her father. If the weapon falls into the wrong hands, every world will suffer (insert evil laugh here).Reader's Den Gold MedalistReader's Favorite FinalistChanticleer Reviews Winner

My parents are tall and my older brother and sister are tall. But not me. I think God hates me. Caitlin says God doesn't hate anyone, but after what happened to her, I thought she would change her mind. She didn't.This is a short (pun intended) story about how I tried to help a friend but got wrapped up in a harmless lie that ended up involving the entire school. I know that sounds mysterious, but I didn't tell the lie! I just didn't tell anyone that what Mike said was a lie. What's the difference, you ask? Well, now I know the difference. Believe me, I won't let that happen again!"...a solid story, realistic and heart-warming." Lisa Schlegel, Reader's Favorite"Tact is the knack of making a point without making an enemy." Desperate for attention, cocaine, and her best friend, Mimi must face facts: Lizzy Ross may not be the girl she knew, and the life of Caribbean vacations and collegiate parties she thought she'd have is going in a very different direction. Please note that this book ends in a cliffhanger. Book 2 will be told by another character and is slated for release in February 2014.“The Disappearance of Lizzy Ross is so juicy. It’s Gossip Girl meets Cruel Intentions!” - Lauren Morrill, author of Meant to Be and Being Sloane Jacobs (2014)“Affluent, arrogant teens engaging in sex, drugs and the hunt for a missing friend? Count me in. This book digs deep into an engrossing world of subtle debauchery while simultaneously pulling the reader through an engaging mystery - I will definitely read the next one!”- Kate Spencer, Writer & Producer, Vh1“You really feel like you're in Mimi's sick twisted drug addled head, so the weird shit that happens catches you off guard because, despite everything, Mimi somehow makes perfect sense… I'd recommend this to anyone that loves a good thriller. You'd think this would be lightweight fluff about perfect pretty manhattanites, but is surprisingly very dark and very well done. I'm looking forward to picking up the next one.”- Kara, Goodreads Reviewer“The author does a fantastic job of revealing little tidbits here and there, things that make a reader say, "Whoah, didn't see that coming!" I think it takes a rare talent for an author to take a character with questionable morals and make a reader not only identify with them, but sympathize with them, too. “- Roxanne, YA Reviewer & Blogger“Warning: you will binge-read this book. The ultra-privileged, substance-fueled, sex-for-power-trading, Park Avenue life of the main character and her consorts drew me in with the elicit pleasure of voyeurism. At first blush a common variety Mean Girl, her secrets filled me with turns of revulsion, pity, and scorn at the same time I grew to care about this shocking, unconventional protagonist and question all of her closest relationships.”- Eileen, Goodreads Reviewer“I like my YA with a touch of scandal, and this totally satisfied my craving for an easy-to-read yet not dumbed-down novel(la). I can't wait for more!”- Krystin, Goodreads ReviewerAbout the Author: Jessica Schein was born and raised in Manhattan and is a graduate of both Bates College and Lesley University, from which she received her M.F.A in Creative Writing. After school, she spent nearly eight years working in the marketing departments of a number of children’s publishing houses and dreaming of the day she'd publish her own stories. She currently lives in Seattle with her dog, Owen, who is—of course—named after a well-known literary character. When not writing, she can be found cooking, running, doing yoga, or spacing out.
