The owner warns Imogen not to remove her shoes inside the shop or visit the second floor, but when the owner has to go out, Imogen disobeys both his instructions, finding out exactly what the bookshop’s resident poltergeist is capable of.

Melanie first experiences the ghost in the school gym, the voice encouraging her to do something that she never normally does, climb the bars all the way to the top. After Melanie experiences the ghost again inside the school library, again whilst barefoot, but not on the school bus when the boys stole her shoes, Melanie encourages Amy to remove her shoes in one of their lessons the next day to see if the ghost then helps her at school. Following Amy’s experience, as the boys whistle her walking to the front of class without shoes on ready to tackle the difficult maths sum on the whiteboard, both girls test out their theories, again, in the school library, except that the head teacher catches them.     A trip to a castle provides plenty of entertainment for a group of teenage schoolgirls. It seems that the 11th Century piece of stone that Amelia has brought back on the coach in her school bag, from the castle wall, has stirred up Ivan, the castle ghost, who is now on their coach and with the girls for the entire journey home. The story contains plenty of banter between schoolgirls, Amelia and Sophie, as they observe barefoot Ellie trying to impress Sir. Then, there are, of course, plenty of scares on the coach journey home.
