The author takes the classic tale of Stone Soup - the tale of a miraculous, marvelous soup, made from nothing but boiling water and stones - and adds a depth of dimension not seen before. He brings an entire village to life, and by doing so, creates a richer soup than that sampled by the characters portrayed. The final page cannot help but leave the reader misty-eyed.
